Fort Bend Women’s Center’s STARS Board of Directors is the Volunteer Auxiliary of the agency. We are so grateful to have such a special group of community leaders spreading the word about our mission. From Volunteer Recruiting and Administrative assistance to Special Event Planning and even playground building, this amazing board of volunteers isn’t afraid to get their hands working for the clients we serve.
Meet our new incoming STARS Board President: Stacey Baker. Stacey is a Compounding Pharmacy Technician with Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA). Her work focuses on new formula development for specialized compounded medication. She earned her BS in Biology and Chemistry from Texas A&M University – Kingsville and moved to Houston to join PCCA’s Development Team in 2012. She credits her passion for philanthropy to volunteering alongside her grandmother in the hospital gift shop. Stacey has been volunteering with Fort Bend Women’s Center since 2012.
“I got involved with the Fort Bend Women’s Center through my work, PCCA, who has been a longtime supporter of the Fort Bend Women’s Center. My first volunteer experience was at the emergency shelter. There was a need to paint the hallways of the shelter, so myself and others from PCCA painted the first part of the day, then hosted a back to school party for the families after. The kids were so anxious for the party to start and would constantly poke their heads in to the hallway to check the progress of the painting. It was fun seeing them so excited. The party included a water slide, snow cones & music. It was such a heartwarming experience to see so many smiles from the kids and moms. It was a great joy to celebrate the start of the new school year with them all. From then on I knew I wanted to get more involved.”
“Any opportunity to work directly with our survivors and their children has been the most heartwarming experience. I also love helping with special events. The most rewarding recently has been serving on the STARS Board of Directors. Serving on the Board has given me an opportunity to meet new STARS volunteers and make an impact to support the Fort Bend Women’s Center on a more interactive level.”
“There are so many ways to support the Fort Bend Women’s Center. FBWC has tons of volunteer opportunities. STARS can volunteer at PennyWise Resale Stores, Hamrah Counseling Centers, Administrative Offices or the Emergency Shelter. Youth ages 14-21 can serve on the Junior Fashionista Board. The Junior Fashionista Board is made up of students from area high schools/colleges that love fashion, need to complete service hours, have a desire to learn retail job skills and be part of fashion shows while supporting the mission of the Fort Bend Women’s Center. Adult fashion coordinators are also needed. There are leadership opportunities to serve on STARS board committees, like the STARS Events committee, which plans mission focused fundraising events. The Fort Bend Women’s Center is always looking for event sponsors, both individual and corporate. If you can’t volunteer your time, any donations are always appreciated! You may donate money online, or donate items at any one of our four PennyWise Resale store locations. Shopping at PennyWise also supports the Fort Bend Women’s Center. Funds raised at PennyWise go directly back in to programs that support the mission of Fort Bend Women’s Center.”
“I am looking forward to enhancing the overall STARS volunteer experience. Our STARS Board has so many great things planned for 2019! My goals this year are to strengthen communication, branding, education and training of STARS.”
Stacey, on behalf of all the staff and clients we serve, we are beyond thankful for your support and dedication to bringing healing & hope to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children.
